How to make lemonade out of lemons.

Okay, so I’m having way too much fun with a rotten review by Mrs. Giggles. Dodging the literary equivalent of a bushel of rotten tomatoes should not be this much entertainment.

So here’s my take on the review:

“I strongly suggest that you read… Awaiting The Night… be prepared to experience… a boyfriend who howls at the full moon. How sexy is that?

Chalk this one up as “(a) …satisfying payoff”. ”

However… this is what the whole review reads like!

Mrs Giggles does not wuv me!

My most recent review was a bottom spanking by Mrs. Giggles, well-known for her scathing tone. She read Awaiting the Night (Not ‘Awaken the Night’, as her Update page calls it, though, hmm, I kind of like Awaken the Night) and her did not wuv it!

However, I do have a sense of humour and proportion. One review, one reviewer’s perspective on a two-year-old book read out of sequence from a series.

For those who would like to read my ‘bottom warming’ by Mrs. G., here is the url!

Have fun, and, as I do, laugh. (The heroes of the Awaiting series are a little ’emo’, aren’t they? But it is a Gothic series, after all.)

Happy Holidays!

My wish for you all this holiday season is peace, joy, and health. I know this can be a time of stress, and even sorrow for some, so I pray that any person who is hurting finds some small bit of healing. If you know someone who is hurting, reach out to them and offer a helping hand.

Peace to you all.

Christmas: And now for something completely different.

Ah, the sounds of Christmas!

I was introduced to this song by a lovely Midlands couple who sing it every Christmas Eve at karaoke. It is special.

The quality isn’t the best, but watch and enjoy!

Hey, Christmas is a very sweet time, but a bit of tartness adds to the sweet!

River and Skating

I am so Canadian. When I was a kid, I learned to ice skate on a ditch along the road, and on a frozen hollow in the woods near my house.

There is still more than a year to go before the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics arrive, but I’m already getting excited. I adore the figure skating, in particular, so in honor of that (or ‘honour’ for Canadian readers), here is a lovely video montage of spectacular skating routines set to the music of a phenomenal Canadian, Joni Mitchell and ‘River’, a song so Canadian it makes me cry. In particular, I love the Torvill and Dean (British, and the most brilliant pair I’ve ever seen) and the Sale and Pelletier (Canadian!) routines.

Lovely. Here are the words, if you want to sing along!

River
by
Joni Mitchell

It’s coming on Christmas; they’re cutting down trees.
They’re putting up reindeer, and singing songs of joy and peace.
Oh… I wish I had a river, I could skate away on.
But it don’t snow here; it stays pretty green.
I’m gonna make a lot of money, then I’m gonna quit this crazy scene.

I wish I had a river I could skate away on.
I wish I had a river so long, I would teach my feet to fly…..
Oh… I wish I had a river I could skate away on.

I made my baby cry.

He tried hard to help me; you know, he put me at ease.
And he loved me so naughty, made me weak in the knees.
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on.

I’m so hard to handle; I’m selfish and I’m sad.
Now I’ve gone and lost the best baby that I ever had.
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on.

I wish I had a river so long, I would teach my feet to fly…..
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on.

I made my baby say goodbye.

It’s coming on Christmas, they’re cutting down trees.
They’re putting up reindeer, and singing songs of joy and peace
I wish I had a river I could skate away on….
